One of the biggest mistakes I see when editing 2000+ words/day:
Filler.
Needless words create friction and harm readability.
Here are 5 filler sentences (edited with changes explained):
❌ The last interaction a customer had before purchasing is likely the thing that put them over the line.
βœ… The last interaction likely motivated the purchase.
-'a customer had' is implied
-'is likely the thing that put them over the line' is vague and wordy
❌ In reality, this might not actually be the case at all.
βœ… In reality, this might not be the case.
-'actually' and 'at all' are classic filler words (avoid them)
❌ You can potentially get paid sooner and streamline the payment process by including personalized messages and branded headers.
βœ… To get paid sooner, add branded headers and personalized messages.
-'potentially' is unnecessary
-'get paid sooner' implies a streamlined process
❌ Make connections and find support groups in your area with other people who really understand what you going through.
βœ… Find local support groups and connect with people who understand what you're going through.
-'local' > 'in your area' (1 word vs. 3)
-'really' is fluffy
❌ Though these do have their flaws, ...
βœ… (1) Though these have flaws, ...
βœ… (2) Though flawed...
-Either option works here, context-depending. (2) sounds more severe than (1), so the topic and argument will drive the edit.
That's it!
Feel the difference?
Filler is like bad water pressure.
You can still shower, but it's not satisfying and takes ages.
Similarly, you can still read filler sentences, but they're awkward and hard to skim.
