Juice detoxes are bs, do this instead.
Thread about (proper) detoxification🧵
*Standard disclaimer that this does not constitute medical advice*
The accumulation of toxins is very common and in reality inevitably nowadays for most people and is one of the main causes for health issues especially later in life since the more toxins accumulate inside
of a person’s body, the more damage they will cause.
Now the problem around most of the modern detoxes is that most of them are bs if not completely harmful.
I like the fact that some of them such as juice cleanses promote the mindset of viewing food as medicine, but let’s face
it, most people who do cleanses end up harming their health more in the long run.
These things can have their place in someone’s diet and you should never underestimate how powerful tools certain plants can be, but come on, do we really think that megadosing on oxalates and
phytic acid for days on end while getting zero protein is a good idea?
Green juices are for detoxing what testosterone boosters are for androgen health.
They just sound good and attract lazy people who think that one single food is the magic solution to everything.
Most of these do more harm than good and the select few that work should be the absolute last worry for most people.
So instead of trying fancy and potentially dangerous cleanses and detoxes, i propose something more simple.
That is a 3 step detoxification formula.
Step 1 is recognizing the most dangerous toxins commonly found in everyday life, in order to avoid them and thus not need to detox from them in the first place.
Step 2 is understanding and optimizing the natural detoxification pathways
of the body.
Step 3 is using the proper nutritional, supplemental and lifestyle tools which will actually aid in detoxing.
So let’s break these down.
Step 1: Recognize and avoid the most dangerous toxins found in everyday life.
We can not expect our body to properly detox if we keep ingesting toxins. every single day.
It does not work like this.
Even though some toxins like alcohol can get out of your system relatively fast
if you are healthy, most of the toxins that are present in modern society take weeks and even years in some cases in order to be eliminated from someone’s body.
Now the main toxins that the average person needs to be aware of are the following:
Number 1: Heavy metals
The main heavy metals that the average person has good chances of contacting are the following:
1. Lead
2. Cadmium
3. Aluminum
4. Mercury
5. Arsenic
which you can learn more about inside of this thread
Number 2: Xenoestrogens
Xenoestrogens are estrogen mimicking compounds which are not produced by your body.
They are structurally or functionally related to human sex hormone 17β-estradiol and bind the estrogen receptors.
The problems that xenoestrogens cause are endless.
From altered reproductive function in males and females, increased incidence of breast cancer, prostate cancer, hormonal imbalances, obesity, abnormal growth patterns and neurodevelopmental delays in children, changes in immune function and liver disease all the way to increased
aromatase enzyme activity and SHBG.
You need to avoid the following:
1. Plastic
2. Fragrances
3. Phytoestrogens
4. Triclosan
5. Parabens
6. PFAS/PFCS
7. Polyester
8. PUFAs
In this thread you will find multiple xenoestrogen swaps.
Number 3: Tap water
Tap water is filled with toxins in the vast majority of cities, here's 11 of them:
1. Chlorine
2. Arsenic
3. Sodium fluoride
4. Heavy metals
5. Herbicides and pesticides
6. Antidepressants, birth control and other medications
7. Nitrates
8. Radon
9. Phosphates
10. Dioxins
11. Nearby chemical plants can contaminate your water
So no tap water.
Yes, this means that you can't use tap water to cook your foods.
Why do you want your food to be cooked in chemicals?
Number 4: Herbicides and pesticides
Herbicides and pesticides are antibiotics by default. So they harm our gut and deplete us of nutrients and enzymes.
They are hormone disruptors, damage the DNA in the developing baby, stimulate zonulin production which is a factor in leaky
gut and impaired blood brain barrier, disrupt CYP enzyme in the liver which impacts liver function, deplete the body from glycine and disrupt the shikimic acid pathway (a pathway responsible for the production of vitamins and aromatic amino acids such as phenylalanine).
So buy organic food if you can afford it, always peel the skin off fruits such as apples and pears, wash them with ACV and even start a garden,
The best tools against pesticides are ginkgo biloba, glycine and binders (do not start using them if i do not tell you).
Number 5: Alcohol
You can not be a regular drinker and healthy at the same time.
It negatively influences literally everything.
Your thyroid, metabolic health, increases oxidative stress, depletes you of B vitamins and minerals, damages the gut lining, increases serotonin,
oxidative stress, estrogen, SHBG and prolactin, decreases LH, FSH and testosterone.
In general, after someone’s health is in good condition, 1-2 drinks per week are fine but avoid alcohol as much as possible.
Number 6: Processed foods
The list of dietary toxins that harm our health is endless and avoiding processed foods it's the easiest way in order to not consume the vast majority of them.
Now let's move to step 2 which is optimizing the detoxification pathways of our bodies.
First we need to provide the right nutrients that will help our liver detoxify pollutants.
This is a two part process that happens in the liver.
In order to support the first part, you will
need to optimize glutathione, provide enough B vitamins through an animal based diet and perhaps supplement with milk thistle for a short period of time as well.
In order to boost glutathione production:
1)Consume sulfur rich foods such as fish, beef, onions, garlic, shallots
and organic broccoli once in a while after you’ve healed your gut.
2)Consume vitamin C and E rich foods. Vitamin C maintains the body’s supply of antioxidants, including glutathione and helps reprocess glutathione by converting oxidized glutathione back to its active form.
3)Consume selenium rich foods. Selenium is a glutathione cofactor, meaning it’s a substance needed for glutathione activity and will lead to increased glutathione peroxidase levels.
4)Start adding turmeric in your meals once in a while. Numerous animal and test-tube studies
have shown that turmeric and curcumin extract have the ability to increase glutathione levels. Just make sure to add some black pepper to turmeric to help the absorption.
5)Consume the rest of the important nutrients that our body needs to make and recycle glutathione which
are: magnesium, zinc, B vitamins, glycine and glutamine which can all be found in animal products such as organs, oysters, free range eggs and bone marrow.
In order to support the second part, you will need bone marrow for glutamine, eggs for choline, magnesium glycinate,
vitamin C rich foods and perhaps taurine supplementation.
Now let's move to step 3 which is further using the proper nutritional, supplemental and lifestyle tools which will aid in detoxing.
Nutritional tools for detoxification:
1) Sulfur rich foods since toxins such as heavy metals have an affinity to bind to sulfur.
2) Raw milk will decrease gastrointestinal lead absorption and cadmium toxicity.
3) Oysters, berries, camu camu and acerola cherries can reduce
blood levels of aluminum.
4) Almost all quality animal products (except dairy) can help you battle methylmercury due to their selenium content.
5) Sun dried raisins will displace fluoride from the glands.
6) Granny smiths apples can increase the excretion of aluminum.
7) Quality organs can aid in bisphenol-A detoxification.
8) Carrots will bind excess estrogens in the gut.
Supplemental tools for detoxification:
1) Thiamine (B1) which is a chelator for most of the heavy metals
2) Magnesium malate has the ability to bind aluminum and
remove it from the body.
3) Activated charcoal
Activated charcoal is made by heating carbon rich material such as wood, peat or coconut shells to a very high temperature and the AC then becomes a fine black powder which when consumed will bind to tons of endotoxins (from heavy
metals, to xenoestrogens, to parasites) because it carries slight negative electrical charge which acts like a magnet for the positively charged toxins.
AC is so effective for being a binder that emergency rooms use it to treat overdoses.
BUT, if taken for over a few weeks it
will bind into important minerals and antioxidants so it should be treated very carefully and when someone chooses to consume it he should also supplement with magnesium, drink raw milk, eat sea salt and not skip on oysters or organ meats.
4) Zeolites
When we are talking about zeolites we are talking about naturally occurring zeolites which were volcanic rock and ash finds alkaline groundwater that its negative charge binds to positively charged toxins and traps not only EVERY harmful heavy metal but many other
harmful compounds as well.
They are my personal favorite because unlike things such as activated charcoal do not remove vital nutrients and minerals.
Lifestyle tools for detoxification:
1) Sauna.
Sauna can help you speed up the detoxification of certain metals all the way to
endocrine disruptors like phthalates and BPA.
Start with 2-3 times per week (not on back to back days) and hydrate yourself with coconut water pre and post sauna.
2) Hot baths with raw milk (500 ml) and epsom salts (2-5 tablespoons depending on the brand).
Both when it comes to sauna and hot baths, our purpose is to get rid of the accumulated toxins that are deposited under the skin.
The hot bath with raw milk and epsom salt baths, has the added benefit that it moisturizes your skin and helps dissolve more dietary toxins than
sauna in a lot of cases.
That's it.
