How to optimize your testosterone levels through nutrition.
Thread🧵
What's happening people? I hope you're doing good.
Today i'll share with you how to get the most crucial nutrients for testosterone optimization through your diet.
Before you even consider testosterone boosters, eat these foods on a regular basis.
Number 1: Pasture-raised eggs
Pasture-raised eggs are an excellent source of bioavailable protein, choline, selenium, vitamin A, vitamin K, B vitamins, saturated fats and cholesterol all of which are crucial for optimal testosterone production.
Choline for example has the ability to methylate (methylation is a process that involves the removal of one methyl group from one substance, placing it on another substance and takes place predominantly within the liver) to estrogen molecules leading to a change in the shape of
said molecules and thus they cannot bind well to its dedicated receptors in the body and can be excreted out of the body.
Number 2: Raw dairy (if your gut is fine)
Raw dairy are an excellent source of pro testosterone nutrients such as zinc, vitamin A, CLA and even iron binders
such as lactoferrin.
Raw dairy products are also an excellent source of bioavailable calcium and vitamin K2 both of which are crucial for the health of the Leydig cells.
When it comes to vitamin K2 for example, in multiple rat studies it was concluded that the MK-4 form of
Vitamin K2 affected the testes ability to produce testosterone by up to 70% and an almost 90% increase in the testosterone levels in their testes.
Number 3: Grass fed/organic organ meats
Organ meats are the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet and you should always invest in
them first if your budget is tight at the moment.
Organ meats are an excellent source of B vitamins such as folate, biotin, B12 and B6, zinc, selenium, iron, choline, vitamin A, copper, vitamin K2, coenzyme Q10 and zinc.
We need organ meats for retinol.
Retinol has been found in many studies to help suppress estrogen production in the male testes and rats with a greater concentration of Vitamin A in the testes were found to have increased base testosterone secretion.
Not only that but when
rats were given diets deficient in Vitamin A, their testosterone levels not only decreased but their testicles began to atrophy and the inner layer of the testicles was lost.
Number 4: Oysters and shellfish
Oysters and shellfish are the best sources of selenium and zinc.
They have an incredible amino acid balance and greatly help the production of sex hormones D-Aspartic-Acid and N-Methyl-D-Aspartate (NMDA).
Cooking the oysters does decrease the amount of these amino acids though so it’s best to be eaten raw.
Number 5: Coconut oil
In many experiments, rats who were fed coconut oil daily had lower stress levels in their testes and significantly higher testosterone levels.
The caprylic acid in coconut oil (a type of saturated fatty acid) also has
antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties and can speed up the T4 to T3 conversion which will further boost testosterone,
Number 6: Pomegranate juice (no pulp)
Pomegranate juice is a health elixir.
One study in people with diabetes showed that 1 cup
of pomegranate juice lowered CRP and interleukin-6 ( inflammatory markers that cancer patients have elevated) by 30-32%.
Citrus fruit can also bind SHBG.
Testosterone wise, a study showed a 24% increase in salivatestosterone in just 14 days of consuming pomegranates.
The juice part is important since pomegranates contain one of the highest levels of phytoestrogens.
Drinking only the juice should help you avoid these though, as it is typically the flesh and seeds which contain phytoestrogen.
Number 7: Local raw honey
Raw honey is a great enzyme, mineral and trace mineral source.
Only four tablespoons contain the daily requirements of many of them such as potassium and even boron which people ho NUTS about in the testosterone space but rarely eat raw honey.
Number 8: (Raw) Garlic and onions
Besides being a great antibacterial, garlic contains allicin which lowers cortisol levels and this can improve testosterone.
It also contains diallyl disulfide which can increase testosterone levels in the testes.
Onions are an excellent source of B6, allicin and quercetin and can increase testosterone levels by over 100% in 4 weeks.
Number 9: Grass fed/finished red meat
Aim for grass finished meats if you can to avoid chemicals or traces of antibiotics.
Non grass finished cows are
treated with extra estrogen since it pseudo helps them to grow faster (in reality it just produces more inflamed muscle tissue) and this leeches into their meat.
Obviously red meat is a great source of zinc, a lot of B vitamins and selenium.
Ah fck. I forgot to mention the
importance of zinc.
Zinc helps the pituitary gland to produce LH (among other things), it is required in hundreds of enzymatic reactions in the body that help it break down food and other nutrients and is critical for the production of antioxidants.
A zinc deficiency can lead
to a 30% drop in testosterone in just 16 weeks.
Zinc can also reduce estrogen and SHBG levels.
Number 10: Sun dried raisins and red grapes
These are a great source of boron and resveratrol which has been linked to testosterone production and lower estrogen levels in men.
Chinese researchers found that around 500mg (the amount in 5-10g) of red grape skins was enough to raise testosterone levels, and increase sperm swim strength.
Number 11: Red palm oil
This is my favorite source of vitamin E.
Vitamin E affects testicular and hormonal health,
helps us combat the oxidative damage that PUFAs have caused, is a “progesterone-sparing agent”, reduces histamine, inhibits the oxygen in the blood, is an estrogen antagonist, an aromatase inhibitor, increases free testosterone but it also protects the vitamin A from oxidation.
Number 12: Bone marrow and salt
Bone marrow is a great source of collagen, aminos, minerals, trace minerals and fat soluble vitamins.
Salt will greatly support adrenals, thyroid, reduce stress and thus improve testosterone.
Number 13: Camu camu, acerola berry, berries and foods high in vitamin C (you can also juice these).
Vitamin C protects the Leydig cells in the testes from oxidative stressors, up-regulates enzyme activity in them and can even regenerate damaged testosterone molecules! Vitamin C
will increase sperm count, protect the thyroid, reduce cortisol and improve sleep quality.
That's pretty much it.
What else can you add on this list?
I'd suggest glyphosate-free bee pollen, maple syrup, ginger and raw carrots between meals (if your gut is fine and you have
enough retinol in your system).
That's pretty much it.
