You need to be CASUALLY JACKED.
What does this mean?
THREAD TIME💪🧵⏰:
A healthy, good looking body
Is MANDATORY.
There is no reason, as a human being, that you should be “out of shape.”
I take out of shape to mean anything that’s not IN SHAPE.
Skinny, obese, skinny fat, whatever.
If you’re not fit, you need to change something.
Here’s how:
The reason most people shy away from fitness, the gym, health in general, etc. is because they’re scared.
More accurately, they’re overwhelmed.
They’re overwhelmed by
-all the different machines
-different workout splits
-how many sets to do
-what RPE to use
-What to eat
-What not to eat
-When to eat
-How to recover
-What supplements to take
-and much more
I get it. It absolutely can be overwhelming if you look at it the wrong way.
Which is why we’re going to look at it THE RIGHT WAY.
THE CASUALLY JACKED WAY.
First of all, what does it mean to be casually jacked?
Someone who’s casually jacked is exactly what it sounds like:
They’re jacked, but it’s not a big deal to them.
It’s simply a built in aspect of their reality.
They eat healthy. They workout. They sleep well.
That’s it.
No big deal.
It doesn’t register to a casually jacked individual that they’re living in a way that most people believe is unattainable or think would take up all their time.
They go through their workouts in joyous pain.
They look forward to going to the gym.
They enjoy eating their healthy meals.
They enjoy sleeping 8-9 hours per night.
But most importantly…
They are BURSTING with energy.
Casually Jacked people are like Energizer Bunnies.
They just keep going and going and going and seem to have an infinite pool of energy to draw from.
Until they go to sleep and are out like a rock.
And they look fantastic.
Does that sound like a good way to live?
It is.
Here’s what you need to do to achieve it:
You need to fuck around and find out.
Getting fit + healthy is a lot like making money.
Sure there are templates you can buy for certain business models and certain training and diet plans.
And they can work.
But they’ll never get you as far as fucking around and finding out for yourself.
(Plus it’s way more fun this way.)
What I mean by fucking around and finding out is that you need to take on the role of a scientist.
You need to change variables and observe the effects.
How do you feel after you eat this food?
How does this training split compare to the last one you tried?
How do you feel physically and mentally after taking this supplement?
There has never been anyone in history like you, so of course you’re going to need to customize your diet and training to fit you in particular.
So where do you start?
I’ll tell you where NOT to start first:
Adding new shit.
The reason most people are overwhelmed when they start is because there’s SO MUCH DIFFERENT INFO out there about these topics. It’s best to avoid this for now and focus on something more important:
GETTING RID OF THE SHIT THAT’S TERRIBLE FOR YOU.
You know that bag of chips you’re eating is killing you. You know that ice cream probably isn’t going to do your belly fat much good. You know sitting at a desk all day is destroying your posture (and much more).
So let’s start with eliminating all the things that are clearly bad for you.
You’ll be able to easily identify what these are in your own life, but here are some common things to get rid of:
-Processed food
-Seed oils
-Excessive added sugar
-Pork (Haram and filled with parasites)
-Tap water
-Being a bum and sitting on a chair or couch all day
-Being on your phone or computer right before going to bed and looking at your phone as soon as you wake up.
-Etc.
Just by eliminating all the shit you’ve been poisoning yourself with, you’ll feel SIGNIFICANTLY better
So don’t worry about adding new things in until you’ve gotten rid of the bad shit (you can do this in one day)
Throw all the junk out or give it to the homeless/less fortunate
Now you’re looking at a barren fridge and thinking, “thanks Matthew, now I don’t have anything to eat.”
Correct. If you’re fat you should thank me.
But you do need to eat.
So here’s what I recommend you do:
Think about all your favorite foods that aren’t terrible for you.
You like certain fruits?
Certain meats?
Certain vegetables?
Great. Buy those and eat them.
It’s that simple.
You don’t need to be a genius to do this.
Remember, we’re getting CASUALLY jacked.
You don’t need an elaborate diet plan eating foods you hate.
Find foods you like and figure out how to make meals out of them.
Here’s a list of what’s in my diet right now to give you a place to start:
-Beef
-Chicken (I prefer thighs)
-Wild caught salmon
-Eggs
-Blueberries
-Gold Kiwis
-Raspberries
-Bananas
-Honey
-Potatoes/sweet p
-Rice
-Onions
-Garlic
-Bell Peppers
-Tomatoes
-Ghee
-Olive Oil
-Grass Fed Irish Butter
-Greek Yogurt
-Kefir
-Coconut Water
-Orange Juice
-Bone Broth
I’m sure I forgot some, but that’s a basic list to get you started.
Here are a couple staple meals I eat all the time:
-Fried Rice with Chicken Thighs + Eggs + Onion + Bell Pepper finished w olive oil
-Air fried Salmon with potatoes finished w olive oil
-Ground beef and rice
-Chili
-Chicken Fajitas w onions and peppers
And of course my Elixir of Elite Health Smoothie I drink every day:
A lot of what I eat is basic, and the same thing over and over again, but I buy Quality ingredients and season my food well, so it always tastes good.
This is the fun part:
You don’t have to eat what I eat if you don’t want to. Figure it out for yourself and enjoy doing it.
Just buy Quality foods that you like.
A few tips on buying food:
Whenever possible, go with
-Organic
-Grass fed AND grass finished beef
-Free range chicken and eggs
-Wild caught fish
-Full fat
-Raw
It makes a difference.
Final note on diet:
Unless you have a health condition, avoid any diet with a name. Chances are you’re going to be much better off finding high quality foods you like and eating them rather than torturing yourself with carnivore; keto; vegan; etc.
Now for lifting:
Again, you’re gonna want to fuck around and find out here.
Do lifts that you enjoy; go as many days per week as you want; use whatever split you want.
If you’re brand new and want somewhere to start, I’d go with a push, pull, legs split.
Simple and effective. I used it for the first year or so when I started lifting.
Plenty of other splits work. Again, try different things out and experiment.
Past few months I’ve been doing
-Day 1: shoulders + arms
-Day 2: chest and back
-Day 3: legs
-Day 4: rest
-repeat
I’m going to mix it up soon though and try something else.
As far as what exercises to do and how many reps…
Can you guess what I’m going to say?
Fuck around and find out for yourself.
(Also YouTube)
Watch a couple videos by Athlean-X or Jeff Nippard if you’re just starting out and have no idea what to do.
I personally find compound lifts to be the most fun (squat, bench, deadlift, etc.), and they get you massive results,
but they’re also the most dangerous, so make sure you have good form.
Ideally you’ll have someone experienced teach you, but watching YouTube and recording yourself to check your form works too.
Side note: training with a gym partner is way more fun than solo, especially when you’re first starting. I highly recommend finding one, especially if they’re experienced.
Shoutout to my boy AJ if you’re reading this.
AJ is my absolute homie and taught me everything when I first started out.
He was a competitive powerlifter so he knew a ton & was the one who got me into the gym.
S/o to you bro.
Find someone like AJ.
The most important thing with the gym, as with all things:
Just keep showing up.
Yes it’s gonna hurt, yes it’s gonna take time, yes you’re gonna be weak or fat at the start
But guess what?
Every day you go to the gym, you’re one day closer to being jacked as fuck.
A good body and high energy are some of the few things that can’t be bought.
They must be EARNED.
A few rapid fire tips before we go:
-Intermittent fasting is great (full fasting is great too) esp if you’re trying to lose weight
-Stay hydrated with FILTERED water. Do not drink tap. Get a high quality water filter like a Berkey or Reverse Osmosis system
-Prioritize QUALITY sleep; dark room; cold; no phone; etc
Most importantly: have fun and enjoy the process of fucking around and finding out. Sure it’s gonna be hard, but it’s so rewarding.
I can’t tell you how good it feels to look in the mirror and be PROUD of your reflection.
