The emotional investment of growing with a partner long-term is one of the most beautiful life experiences.
Here's Why:
Here's Why:
A long term partnership (friendships included) where you fully trust the other person, support each other, and allow each other seasons of growth is a security worth investing in.
The health of our relationships creates the health of our emotional state and our immune systems, but many of us were not modeled how to create healthy long term relationships.
How to invest emotionally in a partner:
1. Understand how emotional support works: at times you'll be in the supportive role. At other times, your partner will be in the supportive role. This will change and shift.

2. Have integrity: healthy relationships are built on integrity, which just means your words match your actions. Trust is formed through repeated acts of integrity.
3. Allow a person to have their natural seasons: at times your partner might be more distant, other times they may be more connected. They will deal with grief, crisis, and pain. Allow connection to ebb and flow with life.
4. Open up about your needs: open conversations (these will be uncomfortable) about needs are key in creating healthy relationships. Remember, your needs and your partners needs may not be the same.
5. Accept that no one person can meet all your needs: when we look to one single person to met all of our needs we create resentment and pressure. Support systems outside of partnerships are necessary.
6. Welcome every new version of them: as we grow and evolve, we will meet several versions of our partner. Welcome these versions with compassion and acceptance.
When these things are done for years, trust and appreciation is established. That security allows us to thrive and to become better versions of ourselves.
The security and peace of knowing there is a person out there who truly has your best interest at heart, whose behavior you can trust, and who accepts you as you are is priceless.
It's worth investing in, and it's one of the most beautiful experiences that comes with being human.
I write threads every day on how to heal yourself.
