If you need only ONE practice to
- Increase energy
- Improve sleep
- Enhance focus
in 20 minutes or less try this: 👇
[No, its not regular meditation]
Also Andrew Huberman swears by it.
Yes, I am talking about Yoga Nidra. (Non-Sleep Deep Rest for those who are afraid of the word Yoga.)
Nidra - means sleep. Yoga Nidra - in simple terms is yogic sleep. But its not really sleep.
Wait I am explaining...
Yoga Nidra is like meditation. But its not exactly meditation. Yoga nidra is about chilling and relaxing.
You lied down & follow a guided session.
Yoga nidra takes relaxation to the next level by guiding you into a deep state of conscious awareness sleep
Yoga nidra takes you on a journey from being awake to a state of not-dreaming, while remaining conscious.
It's like passing through the unconscious to reach an elevated level of consciousness, resulting in an incredible feeling of relaxation and clarity.
Yoga Nidra is a state in which you are neither asleep nor awake. BUT conscious.
> You are not asleep
> You are not awake
> You are not dreaming
Yoga Nidra is a state in which there is awareness of the conscious, subconscious and unconscious fields of your mind at the same time.
Other benefits of Yoga Nidra include :
↠Increased focus & concentration
↠Boost creativity & productivity
↠Instant relaxation
↠Increase dopamine levels
↠Lower stress and anxiety
↠ Enhances learning & retention
↠Improve cognition
↠Reduced insomnia
↠ Pain management
The Science
1.The parasympathetic nervous system
Yoga nidra meditation activates the parasympathetic nervous system which promotes deep relaxation and facilitate healing in the body.
PNS is the part of your autonomic nervous system that controls your body’s ability to relax.
2.Impact on brain waves:
When beginning Yoga Nidra, your brain is in an active state of beta waves this starts to slow down as you go deeper in the practice.
As you progress you move into an alpha state, which is the link between conscious thought and the subconscious mind.
In the alpha state, the release of serotonin promotes inner calm and reduces mental fluctuations, leading to feelings of ease and tranquility.
As you continue, the brain enters a delta wave state, similar to that of deep sleep, causing deep relaxation.
3. Memory Function -
Research has shown that a 20 minute session after an intense period of learning or skill acquisition, can boost neuroplasticity by up to 50%.
This leads to faster learning and longer retention of the newly acquired knowledge or skills.
How to practice Yoga Nidra ?
If you are new to this, I suggest you follow a guided practice session. To find one :
↠ Go to YouTube
↠ Search Yoga Nidra
↠ Choose any guided session you like and lie down
That simple.
Its just about finding the right voice for you.
A typical guided session would include the following sequence:
> Lie down on your back
> Close your eyes
> Take a few deep breaths
> Now take your attention to different parts of the body in this order, while relaxing each part
>Right foot
>Left foot
>Right knee
>Left knee
>Right thigh
>Left thigh
>Right leg
>Left leg
and so on.... every single part of your body. You take your attention to that part and intentionally relax it.
A typical session can last from 10 minutes to 30 minutes
Few tips to enhance your experience :
➡️ If you are new follow a guided session.
➡️ Be in a place where you will not be disturbed.
➡️ You will feel sleepy but try not to fall asleep, be conscious
➡️ Like all other yogic practices, Yoga Nidra is best done on a light stomach.
You can practice anytime you want. Especially on the days when you feel tired when you wake up. Do a yoga nidra session in the morning and you will get the rest you needed
If you are learning something it is also beneficial to use yoga nidra to accelerate learning & retention
TL;DR:
> YouTube Yoga Nidra
> Choose the session you like based on the voice or the time.
> Enjoy
Report back how did it go !
Go ahead try it out today. 20 minutes is all you need. You will be able to instantly feel its benefits
