Black Seed Oil is THE Supplement Everyone's Talking About.
Yet, There's an Elephant in the Room.
If Black Seed Oil is a Seed Oil, Why Does Everyone Rave About it?
You have to understand there are nuances with just about everything
And this is a common one most people get confused with
โŠ Yes: Avoid seed oils like Canola & Rapeseed oil
โŠ Yes: Consume cold-pressed herb oils like Black Seed Oil
Let me explain:
The first thing you have to understand is that black seed oil isn't a fad. It's been around for ages.
The Ancient Egyptians prescribed it in the Ebers Papyrus. It was found buried in the tombs of Pharoahs. Heck, it was even a key ingredient in Cleopatra's Beauty Routine.
The earliest records of its use date back to the Old Testament, where Cumin was described as a valuable commodity
It's even famously described in Islam as the "cure for everything but death"
So why is this Seed Oil so different from Rapeseed & Canola oil?
To answer the question, we have to look at how it's made
The oil itself is harvested from the seeds of the Nigella Sativa โ€” through a simple, cold-pressed extraction. The seeds are squeezed = oil is released.
Watch this 20s clip (from Painted Spoon on YouTube):
Whereas, rape seeds used to make modern seed oils go through so many hoops
Due to the naturally low oil content, they have to be extracted using chemical solvents & high temperatures to harvest oil
They also did not exist 100 years ago...
This leads to the polyunsaturated fats in these oils to be oxidized, often in the plastic bottles themselves
Consumption leads to the slow buildup of plaque in the inner arterial walls (yes, its seed oils, not eggs that cause this buildup)
I won't go in depth as to why seed oils are bad since it's been talked about enough
However, many of you are starting to realize how difficult it is to bring this up to the average person
This might help you convince someone else:
Back to Black Seed Oil. Apart from the extraction process, just why is it so powerful?
If you read all of its alleged benefits off a list, it seems almost too good to be true
โŠ Anti-inflammatory
โŠ Anti-microbial
โŠ Anti-cancer
โŠ Anti-oxidant
โŠ Anti-tumor
and so much more..
It's no wonder modern science disregarded it for so long
But more recently, ancient wisdom has been proven right
There has been more & more papers confirming the therapeutic effectives of black seed oil โ€” from topical to oral applications
And it's crazy to think how there are so many compounds within black seed oil itself yet to be studied
The one you hear of most is thymoquinone, though it's just one of the 4 main alkaloids (chemical compounds for plants)
The 4 main constituents are:
โŠ Thymoquinone (makes up a majority)
โŠ Dithymquinone
โŠ Thymohydroquinone
โŠ Thymol
The funny thing is that you don't even need to read a study to feel its effects
Sure, it might taste disgusting (especially the first time you try it), but it literally makes you feel like this 10 minutes later
And trust me, the taste will start growing on you ๐Ÿฅ‚
So how do you use Black Seed Oil?
1. Acute Treatment
Apply it topically for:
โŠ Skin conditions (eczema, rashes, etc)
โŠ Dandruff, Itchy scalp
โŠ Healing wounds
โŠ Gum health (oil pulling)
Consume orally for:
โŠ Indigestion, discomfort
โŠ Cough, fever, flu, diarrhea
โŠ Irregular periods / Heavy bleeding
โŠ Anorexia
โŠ Asthma
โŠ Any Inflammation
โŠ Jaundice
โŠ Haemorrhoids
It's also a great anti-fungal so it fights against things like mold & parasites
If you want a general rundown on what parasites are:
2. Prophylaxis (Preventative Medicine)
Start with 1 tsp a day and slowly increase the dose as you wish
I know many who have used this successfully & have never contracted the flu of the '20s
Understand that while Black Seed Oil will not solve all of your problems, it's almost a no-brainer to keep it handy at home
It's a quick bandaid you can use for just about anything
I use it the same way the average person uses a multivitamin or an antibiotic
There's just so many benefits it's hard to pass up on having it around
I've bought so many bottles for friends & family and they can't seem to get enough of it
In my opinion, it's so good as a herbal prophylaxis & "antibiotic" that it should be prescribed in clinics & hospitals
It should be a part of Standard Patient Care Packages. It's an Essential.
Along with mandated bone broth. Magnesium sprays and mineralized water.
But what do I know?
I'm not enrolled in Harvard's Public Health program ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿฅ‚
However, please understand that while Black Seed Oil does an excellent job at suppressing a lot of these symptoms, if you keep experiencing the same issues, you have to ask yourselves WHY
Those are signs that something is breaking, or fundamentally broken
Example: If you're constantly feeling fatigued even after getting great sleep, it's a sign your gut isn't that healthy
Sure, taking BSO will mask the symptoms to enhance your short term performance
But for the long term? You need to fix the root cause
The great thing about BSO opposed to modern drugs that suppress your symptoms like painkillers, is that it's much more gentle on your gut lining
You can take 1tsp to 1tbsp and work on the other pillars that slowly heal your gut over time
Doing things like removing seed oils, soy & iron-fortified foods from your diet. Increasing the consumption of broths & gelatinous cuts of meat. Drinking fluoride-free water that's properly mineralized.
That is how you win Long Term.
If you feel ready to take your nutrition up a notch this 2023, I have crafted a playbook over the past 2 years that will save you so much time it's ridiculous

It is also important that you MUST reduce the consumption of seed oils in your diet
You need a balanced level of Omega 3s & Omega 6s
Consuming Black Seed Oil on top of a diet full of seed oils will only skew this ratio the wrong way around
Then again, if you have already removed seed oils from your diet, it's actually a good practice to consume some BSO on the nights you eat like crap
The thymoquinone & the other compounds help fight against the free radicals
While black seed oil is amazing, there are some precautions you should take, especially for:
โŠ Pregnant mothers
โŠ Diabetics
โŠ Children
Black seed oil has hypoglycemic properties, so if blood sugar levels drop too low, it may affect development of fetus
This is why you often hear people say that black seed oil is "not for pregnant women or children"
Keep consumption down to an absolute minimum if it's something you've already been taking for the benefits, but don't start it if you aren't on it
The only study I could find was this one done on pregnant Bangladeshi women, of which 66% took herbs like Nigella Sativa (and others) during the pregnancy
While there were no negative effects reported, you should always speak with your doctor to make sure its right for you
So how do you choose the right brand?
First, these are the various names you can expect from a genuine product:
โŠ Black Seed Oil
โŠ Nigella Sativa Oil
โŠ Black Cumin Seed Oil
โŠ Caraway Oil
โŠ Habbatul barakah
โŠ Kalonji Oil
โŠ Schwarzkรผmmelรถl
Whatever product you buy, you want to make sure that itโ€™s:
โŠ 100% Cold Pressed
โŠ Organic (so you donโ€™t get pesticides in your oil)
They almost always label the thymoquinone % on the bottle as well and the higher that number, the better
These companies do this by third-party testing their oils to find exact % of thymoquinone present
As weโ€™ve learned, this is one of the compounds responsible for the myriad of effects BSO has
Price is an indicator for quality. Expect to pay a premium for black seed oil.
It usually costs around US$30 for 250ml or thereabouts
Anything you find thatโ€™s ridiculously cheap should be a red flag. Theyโ€™re either diluting the oil in some way, or itโ€™s not made properly.
I usually get mine straight from the tap from secret organic spot that I store in a dark glass container
But sometimes I get it from Amazing Herbs, which so far has been great quality wise (also comes in a glass bottle)
No affiliation with the brand at all
You also almost always want to consume in liquid form โ€” it's so much more bioavailable
The capsules work if you're in a pinch and they're sourced well, but you get so much more for your $ buying the real thing, cold-pressed
Note: Not every plant that has โ€œnigellaโ€ in it is Black Seed Oil
What weโ€™re looking for is seeds cold pressed from the Nigella Sativa plant
Youโ€™ll see many other plants with the monicker โ€œNigellaโ€ but itโ€™s just usually describing a plant with black seeds. Itโ€™s different

"Thymoquinone-rich Black Cumin Oil Improves Sleep Quality, Alleviates Anxiety/Stress"
Very interesting. Shows how potent this stuff is. Only 200mg of softgel capsules.
But what happens if you tell a doctor you struggle to sleep? You get prescribed pills
