ChatGPT is fundamentally changing the way we interact with computers. We all agree about that.
However, I believe many experts are *underestimating* how big the paradigm shift will be.
My prediction: LLMs will replace the operating system, App Store and apps. Here’s why πŸ‘‡
2/ The progression of human-computer interaction reveals a distinct pattern.
Initially, users had to adjust to computers. Systems like punch cards and command-line interfaces required users to understand the computer's expectations, with even minor deviations causing errors.
3/ The evolution of GUIs led to touch interfaces commonly found on our smartphones today.
GUIs played a crucial role in making computers more accessible to non-technical users.
However, GUIs only partially bridge the gap between humans and computers.
4/ Modern touch interfaces still only partially cater to user needs.
Haven't we all spent time searching for a button or menu to perform a straightforward action?
In essence, the GUI experience is guided, requiring users to navigate options by thinking like the developer.
5/ With LLMs, we've ultimately achieved a stage where computers completely adjust to users.
These conversation interfaces need no behavior change from users.
And that changes everything.
6/ ChatGPT's capabilities already go beyond crafting tweets and blog posts.
Did you know that by simply describing your needs, ChatGPT can build custom apps for you?
Now imagine what future LLMs could do in a few years.
7/ I believe there will be a total transformation in human-computer interaction. The distinction between OS and apps will vanish.
LLMs will handle any assigned task, even those not covered by existing apps, eliminating the need for traditional apps altogether.
8/ The ultimate goal is running LLMs locally, essential for transitioning billions of devices to LLM-based OS and ensuring privacy.
Work is already in progress to accomplish this.
9/ One company that has many key components already in place is Apple. They're vertically integrated with CPUs with specialized AI cores, devices, and OS.
10/ The missing piece is the LLM, which could change in June.
What's your opinion? Will LLMs replace operating systems? Will Apple lead this new market, or will it be a startup like OpenAI?
If you want to learn more about ChatGPT, download my app Pico Ai Copilot for free. It's powered by GPT-4, has no hourly rate limit, supports multiple accounts, and even enhances Siri's capabilities.
