Author perspective:
AI is always a tool and a bloody good one in the hands of creators.
Key difference is that Human creates and AI produces (rejigs or whatever).
In my usage of AI,
1)The idea and plot were mine
2)In expansion, I wrote a part to set the tone
3)Prompted AI++
++ when I encountered a minor block to generate possibilities.
4) I never liked the AI generated possibilities but it helped me eliminate and zero down to my possible plot advancement. So I give my prompt
5)AI expanded it to further the manuscript by ~200 words. It actually++
++generated 2/3 expansions.
5) Again, no expansion is 100% as I would want it. So I would select the closest and make appropriate changes.
Result
There is lesser "staring at blank page" and the turnaround time for the first draft reduces drastically.
That motivation matters.++
Editing and making the draft *mine* by altering AI generated sections and making them gel with sections I write is an exercise.
In the first iteration, wrote a 40K word draft with AI contributing to about 7K words.
