33 tips for gut health I wish I knew 2 years ago:
1. Alcohol is the biggest threat to a healthy gut.
2. Regular + solid bowels are a sign of a healthy gut.
3. Eat probiotics to diversify your gut BEFORE you add lots of fiber for these probiotics feed on.
4. Unintentional + rapid weight loss is a sign that something is off.
5. Walking after meals massively improves digestion.
6. Avoid antibiotics as much as possible. They will wipe out all of your gut bacteria.
7. Try eating smaller meals more often if you're significantly underweight + dealing with gut issues.
8. Don’t drink tap water. It will only add more toxins + stress to your gut.
9. Take a food sensitivity test to know which foods your body tolerates best to minimize gut stress.
10. Whole grains/legumes have lots of nutrient blockers that will slow down your gut healing process.
11. Cooking your vegetables makes it easier for your gut to digest them.
12. Bone broth + animal skin heal the gut lining & make you more resilient to toxins/harmful gut bacteria.
13. Take a stool test every 6 months to test for parasites and hormone/nutrient deficiencies.
14. Your gut only starts to heal when you feel deserving of a better life.
15. Sleep should be a priority. This is when the gut works overtime to repair itself.
16. Choose raw + A2 dairy > commercial dairy (A1 protein absent = easier to tolerate).
17. Keep a daily gratitude journal to avoid feeling like the victim if you’re dealing with gut issues.
18. Emulsifiers (guar gum, xanthan gum, etc) are hard to digest & usually found in dairy-free / sugar-free products.
19. Stay away from gluten unless your it’s fresh sourdough bread (sourdough = probiotic).
20. Goat dairy is easier to digest for most people than cow dairy.
21. Artificial sweeteners are foreign to the gut & allow bad gut bacteria to populate.
22. Eating more home cooked meals + less meals out is one of the best things you can do for your gut.
23. Get out of the house at least 1X/day. Isolation is the last thing you need right now.
24. The 5 people you spend the most time will alter your gut microbiome significantly.
25. Drink bone broth on an empty stomach every morning. The gelatin in it will repair your gut lining.
26. Exercise (especially weight training) will dramatically reduce gut inflammation.
27. Eat a diverse range of foods to create more species of healthy gut bacteria.
28. Avoid liquids 30-45 mins before/after meals to improve your digestion dramatically.
29. Fermented foods only contain beneficial bacteria if they're found in the refrigerated isles/made at home.
30. Reduce stress levels through music at 60bpm, hatha yoga, meditation, drawing, etc.
32. Playing outside in the grass/dirt (barefoot) is a great way to diversity your gut.
33. Don’t give up on yourself! It will take time to heal but it will be worth it in the long run.
