I recently finished reading the book "The Mom Test" by Rob Fitzpatrick
Handy guide for conducting better user research interviews - the crux: "Is your interviewee a complainer or are they are a (potential) customer (of your offering)?"

Noteworthy takeaways from the book:
1. What does a bad interview look like?
- You're pitching your product
- You're talking; not the interviewee.
- You hear generic compliments
- You hear forward looking hypothetical statements (if you do X, I might do Y)
This is a polite "no thanks" - you're wasting your time!

2. What are some good questions to ask?
- Why does this (problem) bother you?
- What other solutions have been tried?
- Where does your problem sit amongst all problems you face?
Golden rule: Be terrified of asking at least one question on your list (e.g. pay for the product?)

3. What does a good interview look like?
- Interviewee asks you for next steps (e.g. how to sign up to waitlist or buy)
- Interviewee offers to introduce you to their colleagues / outside peers
- Or, you get a clear indicator they aren't a fit for your product
Unsure == Useless

4. VFWPA framework for interview/ outreach:
- Share your Vision
- Frame the purpose of the conversation (e.g Sales / Demo / Info gathering?)
- Share what your Weakness is (what you want to know)
- Put the interviewee on a Pedestal (what they know)

Overall, at ~ 140 pages, it is an information dense book - which you probably should refer to a few times in the year to refresh your memory.
It took me back to all the silly mistakes I used to make 3 years ago doing UXR with BimaPe customers - should have read it then!
