2. Actively Search Where Others Won't
Talent isn't going to fall into your lap.
My finest employees were found by actively searching for them.
Through:
> Social Media
> Recommendations
> Colleges/Universities
Locate them and find a way to get their attention.

3. Hobbies/Interests
What are they passionate about?
This is the first thing I want to know when looking at a resume.
Because hobbies develop skill sets, ones that they genuinely care about.
Then I determine if those skill sets align with what the business needs.

4. Teamwork
Hobbies can also display if they how to be a team player.
I want to see if they've played any team-oriented activities.
Because it is essential that they understand that a business's success relies on effective teamwork.

5. References
I despise this section.
You won't ever learn any objective truth from their chosen references.
These people were strategically picked to enhance the candidate's image.
Discover the truth by making them obtain the references that you want.

6. Experience>Education
Be interested in what they have done in the REAL WORLD rather than in their academics.
Their degree might get them in the room with me, but it's their experience that persuades my decision.
I don't need to know if they can do the job in theory.

7. Read Btw the Lines
People exaggerate.
They'll exaggerate their skills to suit your requirements.
So, it's vital you learn to read between the lines both during the interview and on the résumé.
Don't get tricked.

8. Hire slow/Fire fast
It's going to be difficult to truly tell if a potential hire is a good fit
To avoid being trapped with poor candidates make sure to:
1. Monitor closely for red flags
2. Always set a probation period
3. Fire swiftly if they are not the right fit.

Finally, accept the reality that occasionally you will choose a few bad apples.
Don't get hung up.
It will happen.
But if you lead effectively you will make the necessary moves to dispose of the bad apples.
