You procrastinate because you're afraid
Here's how you can stop
Procrastination isn’t time management…
… it’s an emotional skill
Consider something still on your plate you've been putting off. Notice the:
- annoyance
- boredom
- irritation
- anger
... now you want to get rid of the emotion instead of doing the task that got it there
Procrastination isn’t about a task…
… it’s about you
If you stare at a blank page and no words happen, you think:
- I am terrible at this
- I’m not smart enough
- I'm "not that motivated"
Self-doubt creeps in and stops you
Procrastination isn’t a bug
… it’s a feature
If a tiger was in front of you, you won't care about "getting rich." Our survival depends on prioritizing present threats vs long-term potential rewards
Acknowledge your hardware and create workarounds
Procrastination isn’t solved by a productivity app
… it’s learning to manage your emotions
So, instead of avoiding, you need:
- skills to face what shows up
- awareness to apply them
- a direction to move
