US propaganda has always been clever with words.
At the end of WW2, US had concentration camps, where they killed about 1.5 million Germans.
How did Eisenhower circumvent Geneva Convention?
US simply relabeled Prisoner of Wars (POW) as Disarmed Enemy Forces (DEF).
This nonsensical term was used to justify horrendous atrocities and cruelty.
The German POWs were denied food, healthcare, sanitation, winter clothing, and even water.
When the Red Cross sent a train of food and aid, the US sent the train back.
All those deaths were covered up on US Army records by listing them as "other losses.”
Of course, during the war, to incentivize German soldiers to surrender, they were promised "Safe Conduct" according to Geneva Convention -- i.e., will be protected, treated properly, given food/medical care etc.
