The REAL cause of skin cancer/sunburn
Hint: it's not the sun ๐ŸŒž
(A thread ๐Ÿงต)
"Enjoy your skin cancer!", the chorus of heliophobes chants as you bask bare-skinned in the sun
Pay no heed: as I will explain, the sun poses no inherent threat to your skin, and the REAL cause of skin damage is actually seed oils
80 yrs ago, people didn't talk about skin cancer.
Since then, rates have gone up 2000%, and prevalence in children has increased too.

And people got much more sun exposure back then, both from spending more time outdoors and wearing similarly scant swimsuits as they do today
The thing is, UV definitely causes photo damage.
So why did the sun ~all of a sudden~ start sending people to the oncology ward in the second half of the 20th century?
It's important to understand ~how~ UV damages the skin.
It's not some monster that destroys all living tissues it touches.
Photo damage happens when UV triggers lipid peroxidation, aka seed oil decay, in the unsaturated fats that hang out in your skin, resulting in this:
Without unsaturated fats to oxidize, _the UV light can't damage anything_ (provided you have enough melanin to absorb it)
Lipid peroxidation is the fuel in the skin damage fire, and UV is the match.
Address the former, and instead of sunburn, you'll get a golden tan:
Now that we know seed oil decay is needed for skin damage, was there an event around the 1970s that massively increased the prevalence of lipid peroxidation in americans that could explain the commensurate rise of skin cancer?
Ah yes. The rise of seed oils.
After you eat seed oils, they become a part of your tissues, including your skin, and increase your susceptibility to the exact type of oxidative stress that causes skin damage
When you realize that your skin's sensitivity to light increases with seed oil consumption, as does the likelihood of skin cancer itself, it all starts to make sense:
Seed oils are to blame

In conclusion, the sun has been framed by heliophobes who can't stand the sight of bronzed bodies frolicking under the sun's healing rays.
They've ignored one huge piece of the skin damage puzzle, and in so doing made people scared of the source of all life in the universe
So now that you know the truth, what should you, a newly converted heliophile, do about it?
