If Jesus wasn’t a carpenter, He would have been in HR (hear me out ☺️). Here are 6 reasons why: 🧵
1. He was a great recruiter. He got that recruitment was about sales & connecting with people. From the start, Jesus told the disciples He would make them into something greater: Career growth was implied! He spoke his candidates language. To the fishermen:
“Come, follow me, and I will send you out to fish for people”.
2. He was an interactive trainer. Both ‘Do as I say’ and ‘Do as you see me do’ were His M.O. He prioritised ‘on-the-job’ and taught-led training, incorporating major stories and life lessons.
Post trainings, he tested for training effectiveness, sending His people out in twos to places to demonstrate what they had learnt.
3. He was a good performance manager and Potential Spotter: He was awesome at managing and tracking employee performance, using them to determine leadership qualities and potential. Case in point was when He asked ‘who do people say I am?’. Peter’s accurate response earned him…
…a promotion (change of name) and major succession planning rights 🪨. Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) also came in the form of second chances for Peter, and perhaps even Thomas. We also know who the major under-performer was 😞.
4. A designer of comprehensive welfare packages: Their health insurance (HMO) was Him, extending to families - Peter’s mum-in-law being healed. Meals were also sorted in unconventional ways - you could say He had the multiplier effect.
Stock Options: Mansions set aside for them in the future. TGIF - all the weddings and dinners they went for.
5. Leave Navigator: He understood that time off (personal retreats) was important for resting, refuelling, recharging. He often withdrew to the wilderness (nature) for prayers. I know this may trigger some responses 😌.
6. Culture and Value Aligner: The founding team, to an extent was clear on their values. On a few occasions, their behaviours contradicted their values, for instance Judas big betrayal and Peter’s impulsive ear slice.
If I had to guess Jesus and His disciples’ #culture and #values as a team, they would be:
📍Showing LOVE,
📍Seeking and Spreading TRUTH,
📍Prioritising COLLABORATION,
📍Displaying COMPASSION, and
📍SOCIAL CHANGE.
For all the bad press we get in HR, this is one I can get behind 😁. What do you think? Did I miss something out?
