I’ve spent $10,000+ on shoes & 750+ hours studying foot anatomy.
My conclusion:
99% of footwear DESTROYS your feet.
3 shoe types you must desperately avoid (+ what to choose instead):👇
Before we get started,
Here’s what you’re about to learn:
- The 3 foot types
- Risks of sh*t shoes
- 3 rules of good shoes
- 4 best options for your feet
Ready? Let’s dive in! …
🏴// The 3 Foot Types //
Foot shape determines your risk for foot issues.
You can split shape into 3 camps:
- Greek
- Egyptian
- Roman
Greek = most common.
Egyptian = most prone to issues.
Roman = the ‘dream’… as far as feet go.
Here’s what they look like 👇
🏴// Risks Of Sh*t Shoes //
So what does a sh*t shoe look like?
- A narrow toe box
- LOTS of support
- A high heel / drop
Let me explain why…
And show you the risks associated 👇
❌ 1/ A Narrow Toe Box
A narrow toe box stops your toes spreading out.
A problem:
Because when your feet are squished,
Your muscles can’t work properly.
The Result: Bunions (big toe), Tailors Bunions (small toe) and arthritis.
❌ 2/ Lots Of Support
Structured shoes make your feet lazy.
Why?
Because they don’t need to work as hard.
This means your muscles become ‘deconditioned’ (forget how to work).
The result: Increased injury risk…
Alongside hip, knee, ankle & foot pain.
❌ 3/ A High Heel / Drop
High heels add more weight & stress toward the front of your foot.
This means:
- Bunions (like above)
- Toes are hyperextended
- The foot is damaged
Here’s what that looks like 👇
🏴// 3 Rules Of Good Shoes //
To find what makes a good shoe,
We reverse those points:
- A WIDE toe box
- MINIMAL support
- LOW heel or drop
So my friend, ready to see your 4 options?👇
OPTION 1
✅ Walk Barefoot
Cost: $
Makes sense:
Because it’s closest to ‘natural’.
I used to swear by this this in my 1st gym job (despite some funny looks).
Only drawback? Not practical in urban areas (hard ground, broken glass etc).
OPTION 2
✅ Barefoot Shoes
Cost: $$$
I’ve spent $1000’s testing BF shoes.
Vivo’s are cool, but kinda ugly.
My choice? @feelgrounds.
- Low heel
- Wide toebox
- They look sexy
Only drawback? The sole doesn’t last long (I order 3-4 pairs per year).
@feelgrounds OPTION 3
✅ Bespoke Shoes
Cost: $$$$
You’d think bespoke shoe makers create the best fitting shoes.
They don’t.
And after I researched 20+ shoemakers in 4 countries… only ONE made the cut:
Stefano Bemer.
Why? Because they knew how to balance foot anatomy /w/ aesthetics👇
@feelgrounds OPTION 4
❌ Do Nothing
Cost: $$$$$
“That’s a cop out!”
I know.
But this IS the most expensive option.
Because if you do nothing, you’ll run into problems that will cost you £1000’s to fix.
(Talking from experience).
@feelgrounds BONUS
✅ Foot/Ankle Training
You can use exercise to:
Retain muscle function and combat the damaging effects of sh*t shoes.
- 1st MTP Flexion
- 1st MTP Extension
- Ankle Inversion / Eversion
I’ll write a thread on this soon, but here are a few examples for now👇
