I get asked lot of times, Dr my Blood Pressure is High what are Lifestyle measures I can take to help
BP is measured in mmHg. eg 120/80mmhg, The upper number is the focus here
-If you eat a meal plan called DASH Diet, you can drop your Bp by about 11 mmhg
DASH DIET is a Diet high in Fruits and Vegetables and Low in saturated and Total Fats.
DASH means- (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension).
If you lose weight - For every 10 kg lost you can bring the Blood pressure down by 6 mmhg
If you do Aerobic exercises at least 5 times a week for at least 30 minutes- You can bring blood pressure down by 7 mmhg
If you cut down the amount of Sodium (salt) <1.5-2.3g/day you can bring blood pressure down by about 5-8 mmhg
If you cut down Alcohol to less than 2 drinks a day for Men, Less than a drink or 1 drink a day for women you can drop your BP by about 5 mmhg
eg Bp was 140/80 mmhg, adopts a DASH diet, a drop by 11 mmhg is 129/80 mmhg which is on the good course
