I always tell this to my patients:
Whenever you have such a question regarding any food, ask yourself this question...is it natural food? Is it nutrient dense?
If your answer is YES to both the question, it's absolutely okay to eat!!
Mango is not called king of Fruits for no reason.
It contains 20 different vitamins and minerals.
An average medium size mango gives 130-150kcal(100gms = 75kcal), so why shy away or fear mango.
3 small biscuits has more calories and no nutrition as compared to mango.
Why should you eat Mangoes?
🔸Rich in carotene and vitamin C: clears skin&gives flawless complexion
🔸Rich in fibre(high amount of soluble fibre- pectin):Lowers cholesterol& helps in digestion
🔸Rich in antioxidants: Mangifera present in mangoes impact in making Insulin resistance better
Remember Few things while consuming Mango👇
🔸Quantity: Make sure you take one, cut it and eat. When you eat chopped mango from a bowl, you might eat more without realising it.
🔸Preferably eat it as your mid meal snack, or as a pre-exercise meal rather than with lunch/dinner.
🔸Natural Form: like any fruit, it's best if eaten in its natural form. If you make smoothie, shakes, cakes - obviously there's milk, sugar and other additives, which makes it calorie dense.
🔸Avoid eating mangoes along with your major meals, it’s best to consume it as a separate meal for better absorption and reducing the carbohydrates overload of the major meals
🔸Soaking: Soaking mango in water for min 30min; max 2hrs, will help reduce the phytic acid content of it, which is responsible for interfering with the absorption of other nutrients in the body and also increasing the body heat.
FOR DIABETICS:
🔸Eat it as a mid meal snack
🔸Have the desired quantity and check your blood sugar 2 hrs post that,if it is >200mg/dl,reduce the quantity to 50%,recheck the sugar.
🔸If it is still high, try adding a handful of nuts and seeds to blunt the glucose response.
So, enjoy the fruit in all glory this mango season. Don't let your poor lifestyle and extreme attitude make mango look bad. Eat them whole and most importantly enjoy them without any guilt!!
