5 ways to make your running more enjoyable
Running can feel dull sometimes. Especially if you run the same routes day after day.
I look forward to all my runs. This is mainly because I choose something to focus on. Here are 5 things you can try yourself👇🏻
1️⃣Focus on your form
Your running form can always be improved and refined. I’ve made some big improvements recently working on my hand positioning and elbow drive.
Use your daily run as an opportunity to practice better form✅
2️⃣Focus on your breathing
Breathing is everything in running. It reveals your effort pace & whether you’re at a sustainable speed.
I use the physiological sigh during my runs. I’ve also experimented with all nasal breathing.
Breathing through your nose keeps you in zone✅
3️⃣Focus on maintaining a low HR
MAF and HR based training is a very sound approach to building your aerobic base. I like to sometimes play a “game” where I try to keep my HR in a certain zone.
This is a good way to help you run slow easy comfortable✅
4️⃣Do strides during your run
Sometimes you will be running on sore & heavy legs. These runs can be physically and mentally uncomfortable.
Strides are a great way to break up some of the lactic acid build up in your legs. You will feel much better after a few sets of strides✅
5️⃣Divide your runs into sections
A 15km or 21km long run can seem pretty boring. Especially if you run it all at the same pace.
Dividing your run into three 5km or 7km sections with different pace goals will make it go by much faster and keep you more engaged✅
