We talk a lot about metabolism in the fitness space.
There are some interesting researches that are exploring metabolism
and they have introduced some new facts around metabolism.
So, let’s debunk some old ideas around metabolism and get some facts right.
🧡🧡
1. Metabolism is at its peak when you are in your early 20s.
This is incorrect.
The fact is that metabolism is at the highest when you are an infant as your body is going through rapid changes.
In fact, the metabolism of an infant is 50% faster than an adult.
After, you grow out of the infancy stage, the metabolism stays pretty much at the same rate until you are 20.
After 20 years, the metabolism remains the same until 60 even when you go through the major life changes like pregnancy & menopause & keeps going down as you cross 60.
But if you are trying to understand the reason for that weight gain in your 30s or 40s, then it is because of other innumerable factors like
- Diet
- Stress
- Medications
- Improper sleep
- Lifestyle changes
- Imbalanced emotional state
This finding is supported by a 2021 study conducted by 80+ different authors. This study was done on 6400 people ranging from 8 days to 95 years of age over a span of 40 years.

2. Metabolism can be increased using some pills and crash diets
However expensive your crash diet or the pills are, they cannot speed up your metabolism.
If there is anything that largely decides the speed of your metabolism, then it’s your genes.
But if you want to make your metabolism faster, then only a healthy diet & lifestyle can do so.
If a healthy diet and lifestyles weren’t the true boosters of metabolism,
then it would have been too easy to boost up your metabolism by popping those pills to lose that extra fat.
3. Metabolism is a big driver for fat loss.
This has been believed for many, many years,
but the new research is saying that metabolism plays a relatively small role in fat loss compared to your diet and lifestyle.
So, what does this mean for people who want to lose those extra pounds?
Focus on your diet & lifestyle.
When you will have a clean diet and an active lifestyle,
you will eventually start achieving your health goals.
There is absolutely no need for you to look at pills or foods that boost your metabolism.
You just need to stick to the basics.
So, to have the best version of yourself:
- Eat clean
- Sleep well
- Stay active
- Keep your stress under control
