Activated charcoal (AC) has garnered a lot of hype, and for good reason. It has a ridiculous number of use cases:
- Poison treatment
- Water filtration
- Teeth whitener
- Anti-hangover
- anti-bloating
- kidney support

Activated charcoal is just charcoal that's been 'activated' with heat & oxygen
These chemical reactions create thousands of tiny pores, creating an absurd surface area
1 gram of AC has anywhere from 500-1500 square METERS of surface area

The sheer amount of surface area makes it incredibly effective at trapping molecules through adsorption.
Rogue molecules bind to the charcoal's pores, rendering them unabsorbable by your digestive system

Most toxins are carbon-based, making them highly susceptible to AC adsorption.

There's literally hundreds of anecdotal uses for AC. Not all of which have been proven by 'modern science'
Regardless, activated charcoal has been used for thousands of years, with an incredible track record for everything from hangovers to heavy metal detox

Its not surprising to me that activated charcoal, a cheap and easily accessible substance doesn't have many studies behind it. Why would it?
If a company can't patent, monetize, and gatekeep a substance, nobody is going to pay for a study to promote it

With that being said, I use activated charcoal liberally.
A few particular use cases

1. Toxin absorption (duh)
No matter how health-conscious you are, we are being inndated with toxins on a daily basis
- Mold toxins
- Endotoxins
- Pesticides/herbicides
- Heavy Metals

AC is also effective at removing inflammatory molecules like interleukines & TNF. Good for overactive immune systems like mine
I'll use AC whenever I consume something sus: Food, liquid, even just being in contaminated environment

I'll also use it to support detox processes.
When you're detoxing your tissues of contaminants (mold, heavy metals, etc), those toxins are released into your system.
Using a binding agent will help adsorb some of those toxins, preventing them from being reabsorbed by ur systm

2. Alcohol poisoning (& hangovers)
AC is the OG hangover treatment. Take some before you go to bed at night and some the morning after to significantly reduce your hangover

3. Teeth whitener
Activated charcoal is an effective teeth whitener AS WELL as neutralizing bad bacteria in your mouth
It is mildly abrasive so I personally use it as a mouthwash. Just AC + Water (sometimes coconut oil). Swish around for 2-5 minutes.

4. Skincare
If you're living in a contaminated environment (we all are), airborne toxins will be absorbed into your skin.
AC can neutralize some of those and prevent skin damage.
I personally mix honey & AC into a paste and put on 3 min before shower

5. Diarrhea
Particularly traveller's diarrhea.
Doesn't need an explanation. It just helps

Given its binding nature, AC can render certain supplements/nutrients inactive.
Make sure to take at least an hour apart from any other supplements

I don't recommend using AC on a daily basis, but its highly effective for short-term cleanses/emergency situations
typical dosage is 500mg up to 5g a day. Make sure to drink lots of water with it
The finer the grain, the more effective it will be (more surface area)
