How to build more muscle by increasing your androgen receptors.
A thread on increasing androgen receptor density naturally:
I'm sure you all know a good bit about testosterone now considering how many threads Iโ€™ve seen emerge all discussing how to increase natural production.
Its good to know, however, there is another thing worth considering.
Your androgen receptors.
These are the receptors that androgens like testosterone bind to and initiate a physiological response.
Without these receptors, your testosterone will not be used by the body. If the testosterone is not binding to an AR, it will NOT build muscle mass.
This is also why you have what is known as โ€œhyper respondersโ€ in the bodybuilding space.
These are individuals who, despite taking the same gear as another, will build much more muscle.
They genetically hold more androgen receptors where the anabolic steroids can bind to.
Binding to androgen receptors increases IGF-1/mTOR signaling in the myocytes (muscle cells) and ultimately increasing hypertrophy and strength.
The more androgen receptors you can hold, the more androgens you will be able to use efficiently.
Here's how to increase them:
1) Increase your testosterone levels and androgens

2) L-carnitine tartrate
Iโ€™ve talked about this amino acid a lot in the past mainly because of how slept on it is.
Carnitine has a ton of benefits. It is one of the few non-hormonal supplements that can increase androgen receptor density.
Unfortunately, its oral bioavailability is trash. This is why most bodybuilders will inject it.
You can consume it orally at a dose of 2-4 grams daily in order to significantly increase AR density by up to 25%. If TMAO is a concern, consume it with raw garlic.
3) Vitamin D
Vitamin D has been shown to significantly increase both androgens and androgen receptors. Get your vitamin D levels to at least 60 ng/mL. Get it from the sun, or supplement it with no more than 4k IUs daily paired with 100-200 mcg K2 and 300-500 mg magnesium.
4) Weight training (high intensity)
This is one of the most powerful ways to increase AR. Lifting at a higher intensity has been shown to increase testosterone and AR. Train with 0-2 RIR (to or near failure). You could even do myo-reps to maximize motor unit recruitment.
5) Lower stress hormones
Cortisol and adrenaline work against testosterone. Lots of people have chronically elevated cortisol levels and they don't even realize it.

6) Lower Estrogen
This means avoiding all xeno-estrogens.
Common sources:
- soy
- polyester
- most hygiene products
- sunscreen
- non organic produce
- plastics
- tap water
- BPA
- phthalates
- parabens.
Detox from xeno-estrogens:
- sweat in sauna 2-4x a week
- get your micro-nutrients
- get a shower filter
- don't drink tap water
- avoid the things listed above
Also, the most common source of estrogen in men is being too FAT. Get to 10-15% body fat levels.
7) Avoid NSAIDs
Most NSAIDs have been shown to wreak havoc on androgens and their receptors.
Avoid using tylenol and advil as much as possible. Aspirin is an exception.
