If you’re 40+ years old and NOT tracking these health markers, you’re in danger:
1. VO2 Max
VO2 Max is the max amount of oxygen your body can use during exercise.
A key indicator of cardiovascular health.
It's closely linked to living longer and having a lower risk of heart disease, heart attacks, and strokes.
2. Your muscle mass & strength.
Being weak gives you over a 200% increase in all-cause mortality.
Aim to be able to:
- Do 40 push-ups in a row
- Squat 1.5X your bodyweight
- Deadlift 2X your bodyweight
3. Body Fat Percentage.
15% body fat is very good for health and longevity.
Track this and NOT BMI.
You can have a BMI in the normal range and still have unhealthy levels of body fat:
4. Your HbA1c.
A measure of your average blood sugar.
When it's at a healthy level (below 5.7%), you have a lower risk of:
- Stroke
- Heart disease
- Dementia and Alzheimer's
5. C-Reactive Protein (CRP)
It's a marker of how much inflammation you have.
Inflammation is another silent killer.
Modern-day diets and lifestyles greatly increase it and it can contribute to cancer and all the main chronic diseases:
6. Blood pressure.
Many people have high blood pressure with no symptoms.
You can have a stroke or heart attack seemingly out of nowhere.
Check it regularly. It should be below 120/80 mmHg
If you want help to improve these health markers, protect yourself from chronic diseases and lose weight:
- Still eating meals you enjoy
- Training only 3 hours a week
